Eleanor studies Mandarin as part of her degree at Durham University and spent a year living in Hangzhou, China, to deepen her language skills and cultural understanding. While living in Hangzhou, she discovered Wensli Silk and was inspired to introduce their beautiful range of silk scarves to the United Kingdom for the first time.

Hangzhou silk is especially revered in China, often described as the “colourful clouds in the sky”. It stands as a testament to centuries of exquisite craftsmanship and cultural heritage. Renowned for its delicate, soft texture and smooth, fine feel, this luxurious fabric captures light with an elegant, pearl-like lustre. Known as the “House of Silk”, Hangzhou was one of the seven ancient capitals of China and has long been a centre of silk craftsmanship. With a history dating back over 4,700 years, the city’s specialised weaving traditions have shaped both its cultural and economic identity, particularly at the end of the ancient Silk Road.
